Public Health Advisory to all Wabaseemoong Independant Nations Citizens and Members
Mandatory Mask Policy Across the Kenora Region – Wabaseemoong Leadership Encourages Members Travelling to Wear Masks
Wabaseemoong Independent Nations Chief and Council and Public Health advisors are asking members of their community to ensure they take masks with them when they go to Kenora and to kindly wear them to adhere to safety regulations. The Northwestern Health Unit will require residents to wear masks in all public spaces across the region, as of August 17.
WIN leadership is providing masks to all members travelling to the Kenora area.
Residents across the Kenora region will be required to wear masks as of August 17, 2020 in all enclosed public spaces, as announced by the Northwestern Health Unit at the end of July.
Chief Waylon Scott says, “There is an increased risk of getting or spreading COVID-19, due toopportunities for close contact with others and safety is our main concern.”
The preventative measure of wearing masks is recommended in advance of a potential second wave of the virus that is expected to happen later this year.
“By wearing masks when in indoor public spaces, we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 and increase the likelihood of local businesses being able to stay open by keeping our case numbers low,” added Dr. Young-Hoon.
Wabaseemoong Independent Nations’ citizens are reminded that face coverings must be used in addition to other protective measures, including social distancing, frequent hand washing, avoiding touching your face and staying home if you’re sick. Members are also encouraged to get tested for the virus if they have flu-like symptoms.
