On behalf of the Chief and Council and Citizens of Wabaseemoong Independent Nations, we honour and remember the Anishinaabe leaders and ancestors who came together to negotiate and enter into Treaty #3 in 1873. We recognize their strength, wisdom and determination to protect our people, our lands, our waters, our way of life and the rights of generations yet to come.
We honour those who carried the TRUE spirit and intent of Treaties forward with respect to our Anishinaabe history, language, cultural protocols and traditional ways of life. Their teachings and understanding of the meaning of the Treaty continue to guide us today.
The Treaty No. 3 agreement was concluded on October 3, 1873, following several days of negotiations. Wabaseemoong Independent Nations is identified today as a Treaty No. 3 signatory Nation and encompasses White Dog, One Man Lake and Swan Lake.
As we commemorate the Signing of Treaty #3, we honour those who came before us, those who uphold our Treaty rights and responsibilities today, and those who will carry them forward for the next generations.
