Wabaseemoong Independent Nations is seeking a permanent full-time Director of Social Services to lead our Social Services department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the delivery of Ontario Works, program management, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to supporting our community members.
Position Summary:
The Director Social Services is a management position responsible for the coordination, planning, organization, and evaluation of service delivery within the Ontario Works program. This role also includes assessing applicants’ eligibility for social assistance and developing service delivery plans for employment assistance and support services. Reporting to the Director of Operations the Director of Social Services is accountable for the effective implementation and delivery of the Ontario Works program.
Salary: $70,000-80,000
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage a portion of the caseload and participate in client intake interviews and complete applications
- Review and determine applicants’ eligibility for assistance based on Ontario Works legislation.
- Verify information, evaluate applicants, and approve applications.
- Review employment opportunities and referrals to training programs.
- Provide managerial advice and program decision making, technical program development and support, effective case planning management.
- Supervise and monitor program staff, assessing training needs and ensuring proper documentation and financial reporting.
- Support programs and community activities such as workshops, job readiness training and make referrals to support program compliance.
- Ensure accountable program administration and follow financial procedures.
- Submit reports to the Director of Operations and funders as required
- Maintain proper documentation and file maintenance.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of documents and files.
- Provide appeal process information and prepare documents for appeal boards.
- Participate in community events and regional meetings to stay informed and represent the community program
Qualifications & Experience:
- Post secondary education in a related field or have equivalent experience in a social service or Ontario Works setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of Ontario Works legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and funding arrangements
- Have or enroll in the First Nation Social Services Administrator Certificate program offered by ONWAA
- Excellent interpersonal abilities with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Experienced with Microsoft 365 suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to provide a Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) and a Vulnerable Sector check
