The Wabaseemoong Independent Nations Justice Services Department invites applications from qualified community members of the Wabaseemoong Independent Nations for a full time Anishinaabe Justice Support Network Coordinator (Victim Services). The Anishinaabe Justice Support Coordinator will provide support to the Justice Coordinator based out of the MKJS Justice Services offices.
This position will be responsible for direction and advocating for WIN community members who are victims of crime and will provide guidance/ referrals to assist them in their healing process.
Summary:
The WIN Indigenous Support Network Coordinator is a term position from March 2nd, 2026 to March 5th, 2027. The WIN Anishinaabe Justice Support Network Coordinator will provide support services to vulnerable WIN residents who are directly affected by crime to make justice meaningful and effective for people within the WIN.
Salary: Start @ $55,000.00 with possible increase to $59,000.00 retroactively from start date after the three-month probationary period has been successfully completed.
Responsibilities and duties will include:
- Assisting in the development of a WIN victim support services program that are culturally sensitive and holistic, with support services and referrals in place within and outside the WIN communities
- Providing clients and families with the tools, knowledge, and guidance for self-empowerment during their journey of healing
- Assisting clients to have direct access too culturally appropriate services and to make self-referrals.
- Work closely with clients and communities, building strong, trusting relationships Ensure clients’ immediate personal safety takes priority
- Put social services in place to assist in the prevention of suicide and self-harm
- Transport clients to court and to attend support service appointments at off reserve locations
- Develop strong partnerships with OPP, Treaty Three Police services and other outside services providers.
- Support the development of proposals, budgets and reporting for the program in the Ontario TPON system.
- The Anishinaabe Justice Support Network Coordinator will be accountable and report directly to the MKJS Justice Manager.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 equivalent, or combined experience, post-secondary education preferred
- Experience in providing support to vulnerable clients. Ensuring their safety is first priority.
- Knowledge of Anishinaafeabe culture, traditions and protocols are required. The ability to speak Anishinaabemowin will be considered an asset but not a requirement.
- Knowledge of historic and current forms of colonialism, systemic discrimination and barriers facing Anishinaabe communities.
- Ability to articulate criminal and social justice issues.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to write reports, workplans and develop budgets.
- Ability to travel – must have full Ontario Driver license, own their own registered vehicle w/ full comprehensive auto insurance.
